[OS X Emacs] input methods in emacs 23 ?

I followed the instructions in nexstep/INSTALL:
./configure --with-ns

It seems that I have no input method active in Emacs and that the OSX method is the US standard on my JIS keyboard (ie French through Alt+keys),

C-q Opt-¥ gives me \ in *scratch*

I don't see any difference since I don't use Emacs input methods.

Yes but I want to know if it is a bug and not just a preference setting error on my side first :)

It took me a while to find how to have Atl/Option be "neutral" in Emacs so that I can use it like I do in OSX. So maybe this particular issue is just a setting away...
