There is the info mode by which Emacs explains itself inside Emacs.  
There is also a tutorial for learning how to handle Emacs.


When you're in dired-mode seeing the directory or when the cursor is  
in the *compilation* buffer you can simply type:

	M-x shell RET

and a shell is started in a *shell* buffer with a current working  
directory of that where the compilation happened.


There is also the option to type & on the compiled file when in dired- 
mode (started by typing C-x d RET in the *compilation* buffer). It  
might not be what you expect...
