Nope.  Tried both ways:

1.  tried starting vanilla aquamacs with auto faces and changing to
emacs-lisp mode.  Still mono.

2.  tried starting vanilla aquamacs, turning off auto faces and changing
to emacs-lisp mode.  Still mono.

Working....
