It worked, but took about a minute to find the next word. The slow replace-string operations you see might be symptom of the problem.</div><div><br></div><div>The good news is that these problems have been fixed downstream from 23.1.1. I ended up compiling my own Gnu Emacs using the appropriate patch: <a href="ftp://ftp.math.s.chiba-u.ac.jp/emacs/">ftp://ftp.math.s.chiba-u.ac.jp/emacs/</a>. I've installed three of these so far. All three get used all day and we haven't noticed any problems. We have 23.1.95.</div><div><br></div><div>The compile requires a few things from macports and the developer toolkit, of course, because the mac doesn't come with gcc installed.
