Oops - thanks. For me it worked with: export PATH="${PATH}:/usr/local/bin"

The only thing a bit annoying is that pstopdf (which has nothing tot do 
with TeX) still gets stuck (though the disk util repaired /lots/ of 
probably wrong user settings). While I can live quite good with ps2pdf 
it is not really nice to know something inside the new iBook is broken :-/

You were a great help just in time, the graphics are converted. 
Any further help would be luxury - but still welcome!
