I did think that there were "probably good typographic reason" but can't 
think of what exact italic correction" is? Some kind of "typographically 
correct" thing?

No, I am afraid I can't do this. In my complete ignorance, "fool[ing] 
fontinst" sounds extremely dangerous.

To show the extent of my ignorance. Let me assume that I have downloaded 
the appropriate stuff or that it already was in the standard i-Installer 
installation.
Does the above mean that I should paste one of the three in my preamble? 
And then, to get, say, /ITALICIZED/ SMALL CAPS, do I type

\???{italicized}\textsc{small caps}
