The main contribution by Gerben of TeXLive is creating a subset of
the whole installation, that corresponds roughly to the old teTeX +
gwTeX combination. A full TeXLive is a lot larger, and may be harder
to download. It is not a matter of adding the stuff Gerben did into
TeXLive, although some of the configuration may end up in TeXLive (in
a default installation). Think of setting the TEXMFHOME parameter to
~/Library/texmf rather than ~/texmf. Work on this is ongoing.
