Glad it helped. I personally find the automatic balancing distracting  
and have it turned off. I use instead the "Balance" command (which  
goes incrementally) to check if everything is OK.

If you are happy with using TeX coloring with .sty files (without  
defining a new language), in TextWrangler you could go to preferences  
-> languages -> suffix mappings -> add, and then put the suffix  
".sty" and language "TeX". Of course, the name of the source file  
should end with ".sty" for this to work.
