[OS X TeX] TeXLive-2006 Problem on PowerPC

Folks,

Two people, Franck Pastor and Alessandro Andretta, reported problems
running TeXLive-2006 on PowerPC machines. Their GUI front ends
couldn't find pdflatex.

This problem turns out to come from an error in the TeXDist data
structure. To fix it

	sudo bash
	cd /Library/TeX/Distributions/.FactoryDefaults/TeXLive-2006/Contents/
Programs
	rm powerpc
	ln -s ../../../../../../../usr/local/texlive/2006/bin/powerpc-
darwin powerpc

This error has two causes. Gerben's gwTeX package writes the wrong
value for this link (in TeXLive-2004, 2005, and 2006). Presumably
this will soon be fixed. The MacTeX 2005 and 2006 packages should
rewrite the texdist data for the distribution being installed, but
don't if this data already exists. So although MacTeX writes the
correct value, it doesn't fix mistakes. This will be fixed in the
next release.
