Howdy,

Hmmm... before I get misinterpreted... The word ``escape'' in that  
last sentence is figurative, not literally the Esc key. What I meant  
is the if I first type \ then TeXShop is ``smart enough'' to leave  
off the {} when I then type _ to get \_.
