Howdy,

I believe which you use mostly depends upon what graphics you are  
including. anything directly related to direct Postscript input (e.g.,  
eps, pstricks) is handled more easily by using the latex->dvips- 
 >ps2pdf method since pdflatex won't include those objects directly  
(there are ways around some of this though). If you are going to  
include pdf, jpg or png graphics pdflatex is the way to go.
