[OS X TeX] OSX -> BSD Unix question

Yes, thanks, I was too hasty in writing that.  The correct way to determine this is by using kpsewhich, as I suggested in the portion of my message that you snipped (I believe TEXMFHOME is the correct variable).  This will find it even if the sysadmin customized the location.
