Keyboard shortcut for forward/backward in PDF preview?

Postby elwood151 » Fri Sep 17, 2010 1:20 am

In PDF preview, I can navigate one page backwards or forward with the arrow keys.

Is there also a shortcut for going back/forward to the last selected page (e. g. after using a hyperlink to jump to another chapter)?
If not, how could I create one?

(That would make life much easier IMHO navigating through the pdf preview)

Kind regards

Howdy,

Nothing presently assigned. However, try assigning keyboard shortcuts to Back and Forward (they are in the Preview Menu in TeXShop) via System Preferences->Keyboard->Keyboard Shortcuts->Application Shortcuts (that's in Snow Leopard --- somewhat different in Tiger and Leopard).

Hi Herbert,

thank you very much!
Great, I did not know that I could do that in OS X.
:-)

I assigned Cmd-Right and Cmd-Left to the commands.

just one more thing:
The keys do work only if the PDF view itself (not the drawer!!) is the active window.
In other words: if you navigate to some chapter or bookmark in the PDF preview drawer, the keys do not work (neither do the menu commands - they're greyed out).
So it is necessary in this case to click into the pdf view or jump there with twice "tab".
-> is there a way to make the menu commands forward/backward also available is the Preview is the frontmost window, but the drawer or search pane is active?

(!) for those who want to try at home and didn't know either:
you might have to close the application the shortcuts are assigned for and reopen them to make them work, even if they are added to the menu command instantly after assigning. At least it was like that for me with TexShop.

Thanks for your great support,

Martin

Howdy,

Unfortunately, I think those commands only work when the Preview Window Pane is the active one. You can see that they are grayed out in the Preview Menu when the side pane is open. Maybe in a future version?

yes - they're greyed out.
If it would be possible to make them available always when the preview window is active in a future version of TexShop, that would be great.

Howdy,

The problem is that the Preview Pane is not active when you've placed the cursor in the side pane.

I see - I already saw that, but wouldn't it be possible (I'm not a programmer) to define the commands in a way to always be related to the preview pane if itself or its drawer are active?

Howdy,

I can only speak to Dick Koch about it.
