./configure --help or ./configure --help=recursive explain what the  
options and their arguments mean. Is --with-lispdir really pointing  
to the installation place? Usually --prefix(=$HOME/.elisp) points to  
that place ...

At installation a 'make install PREFIX=<whatsoever>' should correct  
an incorrectly configured installation place.
