Doh!

    Good thought.

I'm so used to terminal for shell, I tend not to use the shell  from  
emacs -- too many times I've done

blah blah | less

in a shell buffer, and don't like the results.

However, I will often compile C programs from the buffer...

Thanks for the suggestion.
