[OS X Emacs] customizations.

in order to further delve into where my problems were in customization  
saving, i installed carbon emacs to see how it behaved...

when i try to save my options, i get this in the *messages* buffer:

custom-save-all: Cannot save customizations; init file was not fully  
loaded

any ideas?
