[OS X Emacs] aquamacs - installing ispell/aspell

for some reason, i just can't get the gist of this..

whenever i do a spell check, i am getting:

Error: No word lists can be found for the language "en_US".

i installed cocoaaspell in activated a few dictionaries, and added  
this to my .emacs:

(setq-default ispell-program-name "aspell")
(require 'ispell)

but still getting no joy..

any ideas?
