As for byte-compiling, it is my understanding that .elc files are
binary compatible in recent versions (21/22).
Of course it's possible that the installer does something else - like
identify whether it is supposed to run in Aquamacs or Emacs, or
identify some paths. But that's why the ~/Library.. path is specified
separately. So I don't see a problem in most cases.
