Sure. What is more important for a serious writer, get one's accented  
letters straight or worry about not having a "real" Meta key ?

Depending on what you type, just assign a shortcut to the "Esc as  
Meta" and "Option as Meta" options and use the one that better fits  
the workflow at that moment.
