I have seen this one with Aquamacs 1.9x as well - I fixed it by turning off
Auto Faces. What seems to happen is that the buffer is initially rendered in
the default face, and then re-rendered in the mode-specific face. Since I
use one font / size for all modes, turning off Auto Faces fixed it for me.
