[OS X Emacs] Aquamacs, emacsclient and ^X #

After the excitement of hearing about running Emacsclient on a remote machine I decided to try it on my local machine (I usually just run the command line "Aquamacs" or my .profile aliased shortened version "em"). Having first of all symlinked the Aquamacs emacsclient into my /opt/local/bin directory which appears in my path before the /usr/local/bin directory in which the default emacsclient sits, all opens fine. However, unless I use the -n flag with emacsclient, my terminal sits waiting for me to end the session with ^X #. But of course, on a Mac, # is m-3 and in the Aquamacs command line, typing m-3 enters m-3 and not #.

What's the "correct" solution to this (other than using the obvious -n flag in the first place)?
