I am not sure, being newbie in Mac OS world, and Aquamacs too. However, I tried to compile LaTeX file in Aquamacs and special characters are fine. Also, I can type them in Aquamacs. FInally, when I use R64, both Quartz and pdf() print all characters correctly.
