[Mac OS X TeX] compiling the latest ghostscript

Hi. I originally downloaded ghostscript included in Gerben's
packages for TeXShop. This was Aladdin Ghostscript 6.01.
I decided I'd try compiling and installing the latest version
of ghostscript myself (7.03). The installation went fine and
I know it compiled OK to at least some degree because:

1) I can view files under X windows in OS X (Xfree86/XDarwin)
simply using 'gs filename.ps'.

2) If I use "tex + ghostscript" as the typesetting in TeXShop,
and then view the resulting PDF file in Acrobat Reader, it
looks great.

However, something appears to be broken: the preview of
that same resulting PDF in TeXShop is garbled. Also in
Apple's "Preview" application. Only Acrobat seems to display
the PDF file correctly.

Does anyone have any ideas on this? Are there some options
I might be using incorrectly when compiling ghostscript?
Perhaps Gerben can list what he does when compiling
ghostscript?

Thanks for any help,
-Gene
