I had this problem awhile ago and it was a permissions thing. Try
going into Terminal and typing
"pdflatex file.tex" where file.tex is something you want to tex in
your home directory. See what it
says.
I didn't have the same problem as C. Dube as the installer didn't
complain -- it was just something I had done
at some stage that screwed the permissions.
