[OS X TeX] need help installing xypdf for XY-pic

I'm starting from Gerben Wierda's distribution.
I downloaded <http://www-texdev.mpce.mq.edu.au/xypic/xypdf.tar.gz>
I untgz'ed the file, 'tar -xvzf xypdf.tar.gz'
I moved the files into my texmf tree,
'sudo mv xypdf* /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf/tex/generic/xypic/.'
{if possible, I'd rather put this stuff somewhere under ~/Library/texmf/}
and then I tried to typeset the file below with TeXShop/pdflatex, but I get this error in my log:
! Xy-pic error: No `xypdf@' option.
\xyerror@ ...#2}\fi \errmessage {Xy-pic error: #1}
If I remove the "xypdf" option to xy, TeXShops produces a good-looking pdf via the "TeX and Ghostscript" option.
Anyone have any ideas as to what I did wrong?
One weird thing I noticed:
% kpsewhich xy17oztex
/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf/tex/generic/xypic/xy17oztex.tex
% kpsewhich xy
/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf/tex/generic/xypic/xy.tex
% ls /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf/tex/generic/xypic/xypdfpdf.tex
/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf/tex/generic/xypic/xypdfpdf.tex
but 'kpsewhich xypdfpdf' returns nothing
Do I need to run mktexlsr? If so, I don't know what options I should give it, etc.
