Thanks for the suggestions, Pete. With Gerben's TL2004 install none
of those map files existed. They show up in the the TL2003 install,
but there utf8 input encoding doesn't work, nor does Fourier.
I'm really not interested in low-level tweaking to get my system
working. I'm happy to help Gerben diagnose the problems with the
updated TeX package, but just tweaking my system until it works isn't
what I'm looking to do.
So I think I'll wait until Gerben can fix the TeX package. In the
meantime, I'll try completely wiping my TeX install, rebooting, and
installing again. I still have a stable install on my PowerBook, so
I'm not dead in the water.
