[OS X TeX] TeXniscope download question

Well, I don't know what TeXniscope does, but if I run my latex files 
through regular latex instead of pdflatex, then I get good dvi output, 
which I can view with TeXniscope (thanks to a list member for sendning 
me a more recent version).  Whereas TexShop doesn't give me anything.
