The only difference it would make were if the pdf was not being sized 
correctly; the basic classes only size the text and page sizes, *not* 
the pdf size.

Compare <<\documentclass[landscape]{article}>> in TeXShop, say, as 
compared to
<<\documentclass[landscape]{article}
\usepackage{geometry}>>
