[OS X TeX] Typeset includes Save?

Because I am "esperimenting" a lot, I do what I normally do in such 
cases which is to save just before I do the risky thing.

I usually start with an example from the Companion and then modify it 
step by step until I get what I want. It works fairly well but I need 
to typeset to see the result of what I have done.

But then it looks as if Typeset includes Save so that when I err I am 
stuck with nothing to fall back on other than my memory.

I am slowly getting to use %comments but is there a workaround? I 
didn't see anything in TeXshop's Preferences.
