Hmm, have you checked to see if the bugs have been reported? It's 
worked quite well for me (but I usually use the Windows version)

Yes. As I recall, it was just ``fink install texmacs'' or some such.

Kind of slow (G4 400MHz Yikes!), but that was at v1.0 so may've 
improved since.

It's interesting, but conceptually I find LyX a lot more interesting / 
promising.
