[OS X TeX] set environment variables for Emacs

I think it should be possible (and desirable) to stop using 
For example, Emacs.app (Enhanced or whatever) can be provided with the 
right environment appending the following lines to .emacs

;; Patch to provide missing environment variables to Emacs
(setenv "PATH" (concat (getenv "PATH") 

For me at least this works.

PS: from my point of view if Cocoa Apps needs environment variables 
(for example because they use unix libraries influenced by the 
environment) they should set up the proper environment themselves and 
rely on the defaults mechanism to get the appropriate settings from the 
user (or the installation program).
