[OS X TeX] memoir class and producing an A5 booklet preprint

Do you really need to do it *with TeX* ? If you just want to view and 
print it this way, you can do it with Acrobat Reader. To view it, menu 
View > Page layout > Facing or Continuous facing. To print it, in the 
Print dialog, Layout option > Pages per Sheet
  > 2, and you can even choose whether to add one or two lines to "box" 
the pages. If you want a left "0" page, I think you will have to add it 
to the tex source... If you want to save it in this format, you can 
then choose "save as pdf" instead of printing...
