[OS X TeX] last TeX update broke xetex ?

After updating last time from i-Installer (28.11) my xetex is broken.  
The following file

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{graphicx}
\begin{document}
test
\includegraphics{some_file.pdf}
\end{document}

is typeset easily by pdfelatex. When in xelatex

\documentclass{article}
%\usepackage{graphicx}
\begin{document}
test
%\includegraphics{some_file.pdf}
\end{document}

is typeset ok but

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[xetex]{graphicx}
\begin{document}
test
\includegraphics{some_file.pdf}
\end{document}

produces running unreadable symbols of the kind

][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][ 
][][][]
[][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] 
[][][][
][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][

  in the texshop console window (or in terminal) and I have to kill  
xetex. This is not related to graphics only but happens also sometimes  
with text but I failed to understand what causes problems. This occurs  
on two machines. Any ideas ?
