[OS X TeX] Citation within footnotes.

I would like to be make a citation within a footnote as in

This is crushing-blah-blah (1)

(1) The term first appeared in John Doe, Things to talk about, 
Publishing Nonsense, Philadelphia, 2005 but the attribution is doubtful.

Right now I am using bibentry and natbib.

I didn't find anything in the Companion 2ed and what I tried didn't work.
I would appreciate any help.
