Yes, but the fact that they are dealing with a folder, rather than a 
file, might not be clear to novice users. A lot of education will be 
needed, as well as a way of extracting the pdf (it is just a copy 
action, but have a specialised item there might prove to be practical).

BTW OmniGraffle uses bundles as well, and add a custom icon to the 
bundle: just a thought for the front-end...

BTW2: What functionality should be added to a framework to support all 
this on the Mac. You would like to have it cross platform, but let's 
tackle one thing at a time. My guess that a prototype of the library 
can be developed in either objective-C or Python (the latter would aid 
in getting things cross platform, but might make it a little harder to 
include in a front-end -- though it doesn't make it impossible.

yes, and that is exactly what you want for transporting all files. You 
still might want a contextual menu item for .texd directories: one to 
toggle bundles, the other to copy the .pdf from the bundle to the 
directory in which the bundle resides.
