[OS X TeX] BackgroundPicture

You can also use
    \usepackage[bgadd]{background}

which gives commands
    \bgadd{.... stuff...}
    \bgaddcenter{.... stuff...}
    \bgclear
that do the obvious things.

Ultimately these use  \usepackage{eso-pic}  to do the real work.
so if these other packages do not allow you to do what you want,
then just load {seo-pic} and work with more primitive commands.
That is, it doesn't need to be just a picture that is put into
the background.
