no, I have no texmf.local, I installed in ~/Library/texmf/bibtex/bib 
and bst; but I installed unix-style symbolic links (there seems to be 
a difference to macintosh type alias's), maybe they require a texhash 
to be done? In any case, things are now working just fine.
