This must be a mistake in the translation from tex to html, since it
_should not be there_ at all.

Remove the \begin{lstlisting} and \end{lstlisting} lines, and try again.

PS. The lstlisting environment is part of the listings package, meant
to typeset various programming
languages in a nice manner, including LaTeX itself. That is why Joe
used it, but somehow it got
through into the html. OTOH, I had a look at teh code of the article,
and it appears to be a genuine
mistake (the \begin{lstlisting} appears inside a verbatim environment,
it should be used on its own).
