Both variants are now supported:

   --enable maptype mapfile   add or enable a Map or MixedMap
   --enable Map=mapfile       add or enable a Map
   --enable MixedMap=mapfile  add or enable a MixedMap

but it's better to wait a bit with the new syntax until more folks are 
using teTeX 3 und TL2005 (pre-alpha?). And the newest updmap has 
another very fine feature now:

   --nohash                   do not run texhash
