[OS X TeX] Permissions

What you see as problems in TeXShop is compatible with texmf.cnf not being
readable (it cannot find the files, but i-Package configure, which runs as
administrator, could, because the formats have been created). How this
happened is beyond me.

    sudo chmod 644 /usr/local/teTeX/texmf.cnf

in a Terminal window should solve your problem.
