Hi Alain,

Minimal examples are the crux of trouble-shooting TeX.
Does the following work for you? (It works for me)

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{amscd,pdfsync}
\begin{document}
\[ \begin{CD}
1 @>>> 2 \\
@VVV @VVV \\
3 @>>> 4 \\
\end{CD} \]
\end{document}
