OK You win.
Now, what I would have liked to know is whether Xfig might not save in 
one of these formats that, say, Canvas, can open (about 50 at last 
count) ,e.g. one of these alphabet formats, BMP, CALS, CGM, EPSF, HPGL, 
IGES, IOCA, PCX, PICT, PNG, DWF, WMF, WPG.
