Howdy,
Are you using pdftex to process the files? Make sure you have the
Ghostscript i-package installed and change the default processing to ``TeX
and Ghostscript'' and it should work. Pdftex doesn't produce a dvi file at
all.
BTW, TeXShop uses a standard version of TeX; either the i-installer version
of gwTeX (which is teTeX with additional goodies---lots of them--- from
TeXLive) or some other standard version. While TeXShop defaults to gwTeX in
its standard location it can be configured for other versions.
