Have you tried this?
\parindent=0em %% for TeX
\setlength{\parindent}{0em} %% only for LaTeX
\parindent is the measure how much the first line of a paragraph is
indented. Since you reset it inside an enviroment you should not need
to save its original setting.
Or you say
\noindent
and then
\indent
