This is not what you are planning to do, but Syuzaburo SAITO developed
and is developing otf package and utf package (subset of otf package)
which are meant to use all glyphs and OpenType features of Japanese OT
fonts with pLaTeX, a popular Japanese LaTeX.

Perhaps you'd better contact Koichi iNOUE who created macros in/for
utf/otf packages and explains how to use XeTeX on his site.
