As Alan Litchfield just mentioned, most people find Gerben Wierda's
TeX distribution for Mac OS X to be the easiest to install and most
complete. He has some for nice additions to the TeXLive and teTeX
distributions. You can find his i-Installer at:
http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~koch/texshop/obtaining.html
You can find details on installing at:
http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~koch/texshop/installing.html
The front end that many people like (there are other good ones) is
TeXShop, which can also be obtained from:
http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~koch/texshop/obtaining.html
You should also have a look at Joe Slater's getting started article
at (click on "Getting Started" at the top:

Finally, you should also look at the "LaTeX on Mac OS X FAQ" at:
http://latex.yauh.de/faq/
Good luck.
