[OS X TeX] LaTeX fails to find files

None. In /usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current, you'll  
notice texhash is a symlink (Unix version of an alias, more or less)  
to mktexlsr:

/usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current brunovoisin$ ls -l
[...]
lrwxrwxrwx   1 brunovoi  staff        8 Nov  2 17:05 texhash -> mktexlsr

As to why the change: I've got no idea. Linux people like to do these  
things: changes for changes' sake ;-)
