[OS X TeX] Format newtheorem

I am trying to get a newtheorem that will let me have something like

    DEFAULT RULE # 1 When there is no decimal point, the decimal point
    is to the right of the decimal numerator.

with DEFAULT RULE /not/ in italics but with the text of the rule /in/
italics.

So I started with

        \newtheorem{default}{DEFAULT RULE \#}

which I would be using in a macro but I have no idea how to not get/get
the italics.

Hopeful regards
