[OS X TeX] How to install packages?

OK, I've looked through CTAN, TUG, etc., but I can't seem to find a  
"simple" explanation of how to install packages.  It is a little  
overwhelming.

I know this is a pretty mundane question for the experts who  
constitute the majority of this group, but could someone point me to  
an explanation of just how to install a package?  What goes where, etc.?
