Thank you to everyone. The problem is solved. I installed TeX with
the MacTeX.dmg, and as everyone could see I needed to add a path to
teTex. This last message arrived and solved the problem as I was
searching through hidden files and trying to read them. Thank you, Dick

Thomas-Rikes-Computer:~/desktop trike$ sudo ./settexpath /usr/local/
teTeX
./settexpath: Applying TeX path addition of /usr/local/teTeX/bin/i386-
apple-darwin-current to /etc/csh.login
./settexpath: Applying TeX path addition of /usr/local/teTeX/bin/i386-
apple-darwin-current to /etc/profile
Cannot read /etc/manpath.config file. You are probably not running
Mac OS X 10.3. Man path not set. Don't worry. I Will try different
layouts/versions.
./settexpath: Applying TeX man path addition of /usr/share/misc/
man.conf (Works on Mac OS X 10.2 and higher)
Man path in /usr/share/misc/man.conf set.
Now check:
Thomas-Rikes-Computer:~ trike$ echo $PATH
/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin::/usr/local/teTeX/bin/i386-apple-darwin-
current:/usr/local/bin
Great! Now I can play with TeX in the terminal. But the reason I
ended up here was that I was trying to use
SimpleTeX4ht.app which avoids having to use the terminal. Hooray!
It really works on everything except the graphics. Now I have to
figure out how to embed my graphics in the html file, but that will
have to wait for another day. I really learned a lot today and
appreciate all the time those of you on the list spent. I have really
become a LaTeX proselytizing convert since I gave up on Textures and
downloaded Gerben's i-Installer (using dial-up). I probably spend an
hour every day just reading the email from this list, getting ideas
about what to do next, storing fixes to problems that might come up
in the future, and just enjoying the camaraderie you exude. Thanks
again.
Take care, Tom Rike
